Across the Nordics, healthcare providers are rethinking how privacy, design, and functionality come together in everyday care environments. From pediatric recovery rooms to trauma departments and specialist clinics, privacy solutions are increasingly viewed not just as necessities but as tools that support calm, dignity, and well-being.
In this post, we share four recent projects from Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark where healthcare teams have chosen Silentia screen solutions. Each example highlights a different approach to patient privacy, shaped by local needs, design priorities, and the people who use the spaces every day.
Color, shape, and functionality: When screens help children feel safe
Privacy in healthcare is more than just protection. A child’s care environment can have a significant impact on their sense of security, well-being, and recovery. At Silentia, we believe that thoughtful design, through color, shape, and functionality, can make a real difference. That’s why we offer privacy screens with printed patterns that combine hygiene, durability, and visual comfort all in one solution.
A strong example of this in practice is at the Pikkujätti Medical Centre for Children and Young People, where care and responsibility go hand in hand. Pikkujätti has chosen Silentia’s mobile single folding screens for use in their recovery rooms. These screens feature the center’s own beloved designs, creating a more welcoming atmosphere not only for children, but also for staff and families.
“We have been very satisfied with the screens. There has also been positive feedback from families, and the children have liked them. The screens are easy to wipe clean if they get dirty,” says Jaana Puutinen, a staff nurse at Pikkujätti Itäkeskus.
Nurse Sarianna Ruusuvuori from Pikkujätti Tapiola adds, “The screens have worked flawlessly. They are impressive, and families have liked them. They have been in heavy use for two years and are still as good as new.”
It’s not only about appearance. At Pikkujätti, responsible care has guided both daily operations and long-term strategy from the very beginning. Their goal is to take better care of patients, staff, and the environment. Their vision is to be a family-owned business recognized throughout Finland for its responsibility and top-quality care.
This shared focus on sustainability and high-quality care is why our cooperation with Pikkujätti feels so natural. With our screens, healthcare providers have a hygienic, eco-friendly, and long-lasting solution without compromising on aesthetics. Through a combination of innovation and design, our products truly stand out, especially in environments where children’s comfort and care are paramount.
Patient privacy in focus: How Øystein creates a calmer clinic environment
Øystein Egeland is a dermatologist who runs his own dermatology clinic as a contracted specialist in Norway. In his daily work, he often treats patients who need to undress for examination or treatment. In these situations, a sense of safety and privacy is essential.
“I chose to invest in screen systems from Silentia, and I haven’t regretted it. The screens are easy to handle, which is invaluable in a busy clinical setting. I can quickly create a private space for the patient, making the experience calmer and more focused for both of us,” he says.
For Øystein, it is important that patients do not feel observed when they need to remove clothing. With the screens, he can easily create a protected zone in any treatment room.
“On a hectic day, someone might accidentally open the door to ask a quick question. Thanks to the screens, the patient is already shielded and does not feel exposed. This is especially important in rooms facing a corridor. The screens prevent visibility and enhance the sense of privacy,” he explains.
Øystein also chose to add a personal touch to some of the screens, which include printed local motifs of the well-known Eigerøy Lighthouse. “It makes the rooms feel more welcoming and adds a decorative, local character without compromising functionality. A really nice bonus,” Øystein says.
In summary, Øystein is very pleased with his investment. “What matters most is the patients’ privacy. Silentia’s screens offer a combination of design, functionality, and safety. For me, it has been a very good investment,” he concludes.
Artistic folds motif create harmony at the New Hospital Malmö
When the New Hospital Malmö (NSM) planned its care environment, the goal was to go beyond basic functionality. The result was a close collaboration between the Art Unit at Region Skåne, Silentia, and visual artist Charlotte Wallentin, whose painted folded textile images now adorn the hospital’s privacy screens.
Charlotte Wallentin, a visual artist since 1999, was initially commissioned to design motifs for the doors of the surgical departments. Using large, hand-painted canvas fabrics that were folded and photographed, she created an expression balancing painting and sculpture. The project later expanded into a broader assignment.
“I was also asked to design the motifs for Silentia’s screens. It was a different format, so I had to rethink my approach, but it felt like a natural continuation,” Wallentin explains.
For the screens, original paintings were created in warm grey tones—subdued yet vibrant. By enlarging the images nearly 100 times, the texture of the canvas and the folds became distinctly visible, almost sculptural. Each department received its own motif, with subtle variations that create both movement and cohesion.
“It should be recognizable, but not exactly the same. You should experience a transition between the rooms,” says Wallentin.
The project was led by Nilsmagnus Sköld from the Art Unit at Region Skåne’s property division, whose decision to continue working with Wallentin was a natural one. “The staff were very pleased with the door designs, so continuing with Charlotte felt like an obvious choice,” says Nilsmagnus.
Although the surgical departments are opening in November, the response to the screens has already been positive.
For Wallentin, the project was both artistically and practically unique. “It’s special, since the artwork isn’t visible to the public—it’s only for staff and patients. That’s exactly what makes it feel meaningful.”
Silentia delivered the screen solutions with hygiene, patient safety, and artistic expression all in focus.
“Silentia has been professional and easy to work with. We’ve had a good dialogue throughout,” Nilsmagnus concludes.
Screens with care: Rigshospitalet’s trauma department invests in comforting design
At the trauma department at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, every second counts. Here, severely injured patients receive care, and for children with burn injuries, the environment can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re especially proud that our screens are now part of their important work.
Rigshospitalet has invested in Silentia screens for both the trauma unit and pediatric burn care. The screens feature designs created by the hospital’s in-house artist—a collaboration that combines function with compassion. The imagery provides a sense of calm and a visual pause in an otherwise intense environment.
For children and their families, this can make a meaningful difference. The screens not only provide privacy, but also contribute to a more humane care experience.
“They are hygienic, easy to use, and help create a safer atmosphere—especially for the children,” says staff from the trauma unit.
For us at Silentia, this is proof that design and care truly go hand in hand.

While each project featured here is unique, they all share a common goal of creating care environments that respect patients, support staff, and withstand the demands of daily clinical use. Whether through custom artwork, child-friendly designs, or flexible layouts that enhance privacy, these projects show how thoughtful screen solutions can make a meaningful difference.
As healthcare environments continue to evolve, privacy will remain a fundamental part of quality care. We are proud to support healthcare providers across the Nordics in creating spaces that balance functionality, durability, and design, always with people at the center.
